Outlook Improves for Investing In Enterprise Information Management

Surveys are great things and we all seem to love them. We inherently position ourselves when we read them, identifying ourselves as clever enough to agree with the majority or cool enough to know what the rest of them OBVIOUSLY missed. Either way we’re enchanted with surveys and results.

The real power behind them, though, is in the trends that they foreshadow. While survey results don’t always agree, when you overlap the results some very interesting trends emerge.

Looking at both Forrester and AIIM's key areas for ECM investment in 2010 a common theme comes to light...

Automating the Student Onboarding Process

Student onboarding has always been a document-centric process. With the recent increase in enrollment among many institutions, 8% in MN, even more paper is being pushed around admissions offices around the country. On average, each applicant provides at least five pieces of content during the onboarding process: application, transcript, letters of reference, personal essay, and test scores. These pieces of content are gathered, grouped, and routed for review using a variety of technologies and individual systems. The back and forth between these systems slows the review process reducing the amount of prospective students processed, delaying notification and putting the institution at risk for losing the best students.

Why not use a solution that combines all of your technologies and systems into one view?

Our Student Onboarding Solution automates the capture, gathering, and routing for all applicant data. It integrates with student information systems, such as PeopleSoft or Banner. It consolidates the entire student onboarding process, through a convenient, easy to understand dashboard view. Built on the Oracle Enterprise Content Management (ECM) foundation, this solution incorporates industry leading information capture, content management, workflow and reporting technology.

Recap of AIIM MN's SharePoint Smackdown Happy Hour Event

Earlier this month AIIM Minnesota had one of their Thirsty Thursday chapter meetings. These are a great approach to what used to be rather stodgy lecture style events.  These get-togethers are much better with $.25 Beer and Wine helping to free the flow of dialogue.  Getting a bunch of Information Management professionals together to talk shop, swap ideas and share experiences can be fun if done right, and AIIM Minnesota does it right.  There were about 60 people there from all over the Twin Cities area to talk about the pros and cons of SharePoint. Fishbowl Solutions sponsored the event.

To spur the discussion AIIM's "State of the Market" report on Microsoft SharePoint was the focus.  The turnout was great and both ardent SharePoint users as well as strident SharePoint haters were present.  As you might imagine, it did not take long for a passionate debate to erupt.  The exchange was fascinating.
